Maldives – a journey to an earthly paradise among atolls and unspoiled nature

If you have planned a trip to the Maldives, then be prepared to dive into a fairy tale or get into the incredible atmosphere of this amazing tropical paradise.
For travelers from all over the world, the Maldives is a desirable destination and the reason for this is easily explained, since this archipelago of pristine islands in the Indian Ocean resembles the most a paradise on earth, thanks to the unspoilt nature, the crystal clear sea and the most beautiful coral reefs in the world.
But the Maldives is not only a crystal clear sea, but also a city as the capital of Male, as well as a multitude of historical and cultural sites along which it is possible to make interesting excursions.

The capital of the Maldives is Malé, which expands on the island, occupying a territory of 2.5 square kilometers and with a populace of about 70,000 people. There are a lot of modern buildings and palaces decorated in bright colors and surrounded by an impeccable blue sea.
The capital is divided into four regions, each of which has its own characteristics and purpose. In Machangolhi there are a large number of shops and shopping centers, Henveiru is the seat of the administrative structures, Galolhu is a residential area, and Maafannu is the place where a commercial port with various shipyards is disposed. Most tourist attractions are concentrated in the northern part of the island. Among them, one should definitely visit the Hukuro Mosque, which was built in 1656 and is known for its stone decorations and a long panel of the thirteenth century, the period that the first introduction of Islam in the Maldives occurred. In total, there are more than twenty mosques in the city and the largest of them is the Grand Mosque, which holds 5,000 people and was built in 1984. Covered with a golden dome, it is easy to see even from a distance when you come from the sea.

Among the characteristic streets of Malé can be identified Chandani Magu and Orchid Mag, where many local souvenir shops are concentrated. In Chandani Magu, you can even visit the fish market and buy local products from all atolls. The National Museum is placed in the former Sultan’s palace surrounded by magnificent gardens called the Sultan’s Park. The museum stores numerous collections, telling about the history of the island.
The surprising fact for tourists may be that the capital of the Maldives does not offer many beaches, and to compensate for this defect, an artificial beach was created, where you can swim and sunbathe, respecting local customs and religious cults.

An important advice or warning is that you do not need to buy items made from corals or shells of turtles, as the manufacture of products from them is prohibited by law and, passing through customs at the airport, you risk paying huge fines.
